MMA Pubs

by prototypemmeh

I’ve been listening to the Verbal Tap Podcast, where fighting is easier outside of the cage, and at one point the one of the hosts – Kevin, I believe – brought up the idea of making a list of MMA-friendly bars.  Well, here is my minor contribution.

BREWSTERS PUB, Surrey, B.C.

Pros:

  • Great food
  • Decent selection of brews
  • Friendly staff
  • Good layout for viewing
  • Decent parking, will cover parking tickets that result from an evening with them
  • Bartenders who enjoy learning about MMA and keep up to date with topics

Cons:

  • $5 cover charge per person

MISSION SPRINGS BREWPUB, Mission, B.C.

Pros:

  • Excellent pizzas and other food
  • In-house craft brews
  • No cover charge
  • Ample parking
  • Free raffle giveaways

Cons:

  • Not the best layout for PPV events
  • Plenty of “UFC Black belts”

SAMZ NEIGHBOURHOOD PUB, Pitt Meadows, B.C.

Pros:

  • Excellent seating with multiple screens
  • Decent selection of brews
  • A bartender who understands grappling and striking (and a former training partner)
  • No cover charge
  • Ample parking
  • Great food

Cons:

  • Can be difficult to manoeuvre to the washrooms when it’s busy

Samz is my current pub of choice, mostly due to my friend and former training partner: Mike Hurley.  It’s not too far from my place, and traffic is usually light after each event.  It has an enjoyable atmosphere, and always makes for a relaxing, humorous, and fun-filled evening.
